Berkeley Vale Rugby League

Firstly I’d like to welcome everyone to season 2010. After what felt like an eternity, the long off season is finally over and Rugby League is back! Our Seniors played their first round last weekend against Woy Woy, with our 19’s claiming the only victory of the day and our other teams narrowly defeated by a strong Woy Woy Club. Our boys are only going to get better with each outing and still have a lot of improvement in them, so the future is looking very bright for our senior teams. Our Juniors start their premiership campaigns this weekend, all away games, and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish them all the greatest of success for the coming season. I know you will do our club proud.

2010 marks a big milestone for our great club, being our 25^th Anniversary year. It was great to see our Seniors running out last weekend in the club’s old colours of the “Chocolate Soldiers”, and also to have our “Life Members” Day, where we recognised the contributions of our life members for all of the great work they have done for our club over the years. A great day was had by all and we look forward to seeing more of our Life Members around our club this season.

We recently held our Seniors season launch at “The Bay Sports Club” (one of our major sponsors) and unveiled our 2010 playing strip and also reminisced over the club’s past 25 years. Hosted by Steve Allan from 2GO’s Saturday morning Sports programme “The Locker Room”, the evening was a great success. Steve did a brilliant job interviewing Central Coast bears CEO, Greg Florimo, 1^st Grade Coach, Tony Gleeson and Club Captain, Chris York. It was the perfect way to start what is anticipated as being our best season to date. The Club needs as much support as it can muster for this coming season, so I would like to encourage everyone to get on down to the Panthers Den for every home game and make our place the fortress that every home ground should be!!!

I’d also like to remind everyone that the club’s bar is open every Friday night from 5pm. So come on down and enjoy the company of other club members, have a drink and also feast on the sensational tastes of the Under 12’s BBQ.
